The weather on Wednesday made for a beautiful scene for people who wanted to see the Northern Lights
This week, people in the Melfort, Saskatchewan, area got to see a beautiful natural show when a storm brought the northern lights and lightning together in the sky.
The weather on Wednesday made for a beautiful scene for spectators and aurora hunters, like Tristan Wingert, who went out to take pictures of lightning but got a surprise when he got to the city about 180 kilometers northeast of Saskatoon.
“After the storm passed, the sky cleared up, and the northern lights came out. I couldn’t go home and sleep because of that,” Wingert said.
Between midnight and 3 a.m., Wingert took a lot of pictures that were very interesting. He thought it was a privilege to be in the right place at the right time. He said it was an emotional and amazing experience.
Dale Boan, a landscape photographer from Saskatoon who has been looking for the northern lights for more than 10 years, also thought the skies on Wednesday were amazing. He had never seen lightning and the northern lights at the same time.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see both of them at the same time, as well as a beautiful aurora show. “Getting that on film was a real treat,” Boan said.
Boan and Wingert both say that people who want to see the northern lights should look for a clear night away from city lights and pollution. When you park on a dirt road, you can get a great view.
Wingert said he was happy to share these experiences with other people and hoped that it would make more people want to go outside and see the beauty of nature for themselves.
