Recent developments:

  • Most of Ottawa’s COVID-19 numbers are staying the same or going down.
  • 75% of Ottawans over the age of four don’t have the recommended COVID vaccine.
  • The COVID risk level for the EOHU stays at a moderate level.
  • There have been six more deaths in the area due to COVID.

The latest&nbsp

In its most recent report, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) said that COVID-19 levels in the city are generally stable at moderate to very high levels.

Experts say that people should wear masks inside and, in Ontario, for a few days after having COVID symptoms. People who are weak can also be protected by staying home when they are sick and getting their COVID vaccines on time.

Wastewater

The research team’s data shows that the average level of coronavirus in wastewater has been going up for more than two weeks and is now at its highest level since early February.

The latest information comes from March 30. OPH thinks that this level is very high. In the last year or so, it hasn’t gone much higher than this very often.

Hospitals

For COVID-19, there are 15 less people from Ottawa in local hospitals. It has mostly stayed around 20 for almost two months.

The number of patients who tested positive for COVID after being admitted for other reasons, those who were admitted because of COVID complications that didn’t go away, and those who were transferred from other health units is stable.

Tests, outbreaks and deaths

There are once again 15 COVID outbreaks in Ottawa. According to OPH, that number is not too high or too low.

The rate of positive COVID-19 tests in the city drops to about 8%.

Since Friday, the OPH has heard about 55 more COVID cases and the deaths of two people in their 70s who had COVID.

Vaccines

Twenty-five percent of Ottawans age five and up have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine dose in the last six months, which is what is usually recommended. The rates of vaccination are higher in older age groups.

That means that about 783,000 people in that age range are not protected by the recommended vaccines. It doesn’t take into account immunity to getting COVID.

Even though there are no recent data for this age group, 14% of Ottawans between the ages of 6 months and 4 years old have had at least two doses. They first became eligible in late July 2022.

Ottawa residents received about 300 COVID vaccine doses in the last week.

As of the most recent weekly update, 85% of Ottawa residents had at least one COVID vaccine dose, 82% had at least two doses, 56% had at least three doses, and 31% had at least four doses.

Across the regio

Spread

Average levels of coronavirus in wastewater are stable in the counties of Kingston, Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark. They are out of date or not available anywhere else but Ottawa.

The COVID risk level in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) remains moderate.

Hospitalizations and deaths

Communities outside of Ottawa in eastern Ontario have reported about 25 COVID-19 hospitalizations, with four patients in intensive care.

Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) Public Health is not included in this regional count because it uses a different way to count. Its number of hospitalizations in the area is stable at about 19. In its weekly report, the health unit also said that 115 people had died from COVID.

The EOHU found out about three more COVID deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 300.

There are 55 people in hospitals in Western Quebec who have COVID. One of them is getting very serious care.

Vaccines

The Kingston area’s health unit says that 24% of people age 5 and up have gotten a COVID vaccine in the last six months. It drops to 22% in HPE and is not available anywhere else.

Across eastern Ontario, between 79 and 90 per cent of residents age five and up have received at least two COVID-19 vaccine doses, and between 52 and 65 per cent of those residents have had at least three, according to the province.
