Since June 17, the MV Confederation hasn’t been running
The ferry between Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) and Nova Scotia (N.S.) will start running again weeks sooner than expected, the company that runs the service said late Friday.
The ferry service between Wood Islands, P.E.I., and Caribou, N.S., stopped running on June 17 because the MV Confederation needed a new part to fix a mechanical problem.
People thought that the ship wouldn’t be ready to go back into service until the middle of July because the part had to be made, shipped, and tested.
Northumberland Ferries Limited said in a statement released on Friday that it “did everything it could to speed up the making and delivery of the new part and was able to do so with the help of the supplier and all supporting agencies.”
When it stopped running this spring, the only way to get between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia was on the MV Confederation. The second ferry, the MV Saaremaa 1, will come from Quebec on loan in the middle of July. It was supposed to happen at the same time as the Confederation in the summer.
