Investigators say that on Tuesday, Mohamed Ahmed, who was 36, was shot and killed
Mustafa Ahmed, a well-known musician and poet from Toronto, wrote a series of online posts on Thursday about how sad he was about his brother Mohamed’s death and how sad he was that he died because of violence.
Over the course of several Instagram stories, the artist who won a Juno and whose work has been shortlisted for the Polaris PrizeWhen Smoke Rises professed his sorrow.
“My big brother, now and then and in the life that will come after this, the ground is missing, I have lost the way,” he wrote.
“When we shared a room, I couldn’t handle how little of it was mine. Now that we don’t share a world, I can’t handle how little of it is mine, how much of it you took with you, and how much of it I see you in.”
Police had already said that 36-year-old Mohamed Ahmed was shot in the daytime on Tuesday near Sherbourne and Shuter Streets.
When the police got there, they found him in a car, not moving, with gunshot wounds. Soon after, he was said to be dead at the scene.
Police have said that the shooter and the person who was shot may have known each other. On Thursday, police said they are looking for a Toronto man who is 34 years old and wanted for first-degree murder.
Mustafa wrote, “They killed my brother in the community I gave my life to.”
“Here, have my faith. It won’t come back.”
