Police say they arrested Randy Cooke at 4:30 p.m
Saskatchewan RCMP have cancelled a dangerous person alert for the Onion Lake Cree Nation area after they arrested a 35-year-old man they said was armed and walking on foot.
The Cree Nation is about 50 km north of Lloydminster, on the border between Saskatchewan and Alberta.
In a news release on Thursday evening, the police said that Randy Cooke had been found and arrested in the Cree Nation community around 4:30 p.m.Cooke is a person from the Cree Nation.
“It seems like everything is in order. “The RCMP told us about a situation in a certain part of the Nation,” said Pete Chief, the associate director of operations for the Onion Lake Cree Nation.
“There is a road that leads to a neighborhood, but it has been shut down. There won’t be any traffic there.”
Chief said he thought Cooke was in the community and that he used to live in the northern part of it. People in that area were told to find shelter, stay inside, and keep their doors shut.
Now, the police have said that there is no danger to public safety because of this event. Investigations are still going on.
The RCMP said that Turtleford RCMP and the Critical Incident Response Team, which includes the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, had been called in to help with the investigation.
